The Law of Attraction: Do you live by faith or fear?
Well, it's official – the buzz is out! More and more people seem to be talking about and attempting to implement this concept of the Law of Attraction. In fact, there is a new documentary out now called the secret (www.thesecret.tv) that many people are raving about. The message of this documentary even got Oprah's attention – so much so that she had the whole cast on her show which says to the world, this is BIG news! The truth is that this information is not new; people have been studying, practicing and implementing the Law of Attraction for decades. The Law of Attraction is stated in many different ways throughout various practices, self-help books and even 12-step groups. The bottom line for all of these is what you focus your attention on, you create. If you focus on what's positive in your life and the things you DO want, that grows bigger and conversely if you focus on what's wrong and the things that you DO NOT want, that too will snow ball. If it really is this simple, why don't more people in this world have what they want in their lives? Why aren't we all living our dreams? And why aren't we all happier?
Well as simple of a concept as this is, it's not always easy to practice it. When you boil it down, this is a practice of faith. It is choosing to believe you can have what you want in your life. And it's choosing to believe that you deserve to have abundance in your life. Equally important it's paying attention and getting clear on what it is you REALLY do want. Do you really know what you want or do you only focus on what you don't want? The place most get stuck in this practice is that they focus on the things they don't want in their life and according to the Law of Attraction, this focus draws in more of the same – thus, you continue attracting that which you do not want.
I invite you now to look more closely at a specific area of your life (i.e. work, relationships, money) and pay attention to the beliefs, thoughts and choices you have on this topic. Do they reflect an attitude of faith and positive feeling or do you notice fear and a sense of scarcity? Now based on what you believe notice what you tend to attract in this area of your life? Do things flow easily for you in this area of your life? If they do, then you are on your way to practicing the Law of Attraction. If it doesn't flow easily then there is something happening in your underlying belief to stop the flow. Take a look at what your beliefs are and turn it around into a positive belief. Practice adopting this new way of looking at this area of your life for 1 week and see how you feel. Notice if anything changes for you in this area of your life. My guess is that you'll start to feel more positive and hopeful and it will begin to attract what you want. Now, I understand that this may feel a little foreign in the beginning.
Another way to think of this is using the analogy of exercising. When you begin to work a new muscle through various exercises initially it can feel awkward and even a bit uncomfortable and then, over time, this dissipates because the muscle is stronger so the motion starts to feel natural. The same process holds true for practicing the Law of Attraction. Your thoughts will not bring you immediate manifestations but the more often you think positive thoughts and say the words to support them, the better you will feel and the more confidence you will have that they will manifest. And thus, they will. The bottom line is, you get what you think about, wanted or not.
