Feng Shui Tips for Insomnia

Sleeping deeply through the night is one of the most important foundations for good health. If you find that you are not waking up rested in the morning, here are some ways to ensure your sleeping quarters are conducive to a great night's sleep.

  1. Did you recently come out of a stressful period? We all spend a number of hours in bed every day, so our mattresses and bedding absorb subtle energy associated with how we are feeling emotionally as well as physically. If you go through a particularly difficult period in your life, such as a divorce, a serious health challenge, the loss of a loved one, etc. It can be helpful to do a space clearing ceremony in the bedroom to clear out any residue of negative or heavy energy that might be lingering in the room.

  2. How old is your mattress? Most mattresses are not designed to last more than 10 years, and a sagging or uncomfortable mattress is the bane of a good night's sleep. If you think it might be time for a new mattress, consider an eco-friendly mattress made without polyurethane foam, chemical flame retardants or formaldehyde. Conventional mattresses can off-gas for a long time, and breathing these chemicals deeply into your system every night while you sleep is not the best for your health. 3. How dark is your bedroom? Some people are more sensitive to light than others. If your eyes tend to be light-sensitive by day, more than likely they are light-sensitive by night as well. Consider installing blackout shades or draperies to create a truly dark environment to support deep and sustained slumber.

  4. How quiet is your bedroom? If there is noise outside your bedroom that is keeping you awake at night, one option would be to upgrade your windows, as the technology in this arena has improved dramatically and there are now a lot of wonderful options for reducing sound. If you are interested in other sound proofing ideas, please feel free to contact me with your specific problem and I would be happy to give you some ideas.

  5. Do you have any computers or technology in the bedroom? The electromagnetic fields generated by these kinds of equipment can produce anxiety and sleeplessness. Most people are more strongly affected by electromagnetic fields when they are in an open and receptive state emotionally and energetically, such as during sleep and sexual intimacy; for this reason it is particularly important to minimize EMFs in the bedroom. A Trifield meter can be helpful for measuring the actual presence of EMFs to determine where this is a significant issue in your home.
